Life Update – We Moved!

It has been forever since I’ve posted or shared anything on here – it’s been a very hectic year or two for sure. If you’ve followed along on Instagram – you’ll know one of the exciting things we did this year was move to a new house. We said goodbye to our turn key first home and have officially moved into our 1979 fixer upper. We fell in love with the neighbourhood that the new house is situated in – and giving that I do renovations for a living – we knew we wanted something that we could renovate to make our own.

We took possession of the house in mid-May and planned to move slowly over a couple of weeks before closing on our previous house at the end of May – but having the textured ceilings we planned to remove / scrape test positive for asbestos threw a little wrench into that plan. Thankfully – an abatement crew was able to come in to remove all of the affected ceilings on the main floor as well as scrape all the areas on the second floor. We were happy that it was done right, done quick and done well – though this was a big hit to the renovation budget we hadn’t anticipated. After the abatement – we had about a month to live in the home before the main renovation would start – so we made due with our industrial exposed ceiling space.

Since moving in – we’ve added a bathroom so that we can update the main ensuite ( wait until you see the before layout of this space.. ). Demo has officially started on the main floor – where we plan to raise a sunken living room, open up the kitchen, relocate the laundry room and add in a couple of archways. We’re also updating flooring on both floors as well as refreshing the stairs, paint and doors throughout.

Between working on renovations for all of my clients and trying to plan my whole home renovation – it’s been hard to find a chance to put anything on it together for this blog. I’ll share more details on the individual spaces as we progress through the renovations to give you all a glimpse on what we’re doing to update this home!
