Our Renovation : Ensuite Plans & Reveal

As it turns out – I was too busy in the throes of the renovation to even do a ‘plan’ post for the ensuite – so I’ve decided to do a full post about the planning process and reveal together as one. This is one of the rooms we did that I get the most questions about – so finally all of the tile and fixtures will be linked here to save me from re-typing daily on Instagram!

The Plan:

The original floor plan of the house – though listed as three bathrooms – only had one tub. If you’ve read my previous posts on our hall bathroom renovation – you’ll know we added a second full bath so that we would have a tub to use while we tackled this ensuite project. If you read about our kitchen renovation plan – you’ll also know that we planned to relocate the main floor laundry room to the second floor as part of this project.

The original layout of this bathroom included a powder room off of the primary ensuite that had a single vanity and toilet. This powder room was connected to what was the hall bathroom through a shared door. The original hall bathroom had a single vanity, toilet and tub – and if you’ve seen any of my Instagram posts – you’ll know about the awkward his & hers hand-holding toilet situation that I absolutely had to correct.

I planned to keep the primary toilet in the existing location to save on costs. We merged the two bathrooms together and closed off access from the hallway. Where the door to the bathroom from the hallway once was – we relocated the laundry appliances into a new closet for easy access from our primary bedroom. Inside the bathroom – I planned for a double vanity and larger custom shower. As I don’t love the look of a shower niche and wanted to create an accent with a reeded wood tile ( and since we had the space to accommodate ) – I ran a shampoo ledge the full length of the back wall of the shower.

The Inspiration:

For the ensuite – there weren’t as many inspiration images that resonated – but I knew a few things:

  • I wanted to incorporate a reeded wood look accent tile
  • I’ve always been obsessed with a busier marble pattern ( though the asbestos I mentioned in an earlier post meant cuts to my finishes budget )
  • I wanted to use brass toned fixtures
  • I wanted to have the perfect wood vanity to match my wood look tile

The Progress:

The Reveal:

The new space is both bright and warm and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. The custom vanity gives us tons of storage and the shampoo ledge and wood tile feature wall pair perfectly with the vanity. Enough with the words already though – the pictures speak for themselves:

Stay tuned for the reveal of the other areas we renovated and follow along on Instagram for more!
